Local Outdoor Activities

Artists have been painting this area for centuries, and it's a worthy landscape to memorialize, but nothing beats the real thing. Fieldstone Farm. is nestled in the forests of The Hudson Valley, and when you stay with us, you’ll have to carve out some time to explore the places beyond our fence posts. We're located near to an Appalachian Trail entrance, reservoirs for boating, swimming, and floating, river towns worth exploring (like Beacon and Cold Spring), and there are plenty of gorgeous state parks to visit, hike, and explore.

We love our little slice of paradise, and we want to share that with you, so take a look at the suggestions below for some local outdoor activities. The underlined portions are hyperlinked, so you can click on the links to take you to outside website for more information like hours of operation, ticket prices, maps, and fishing permits.

White Pond

White Pond is a 276 Acre DEP multi-use recreational wooded area with a pond. It’s located 1.5 miles away, and you can swim, float, kayak, canoe, and fish with a NYS fishing permit (scan QR code below for permit registration). You can also hike around the lake, but you’ll have to drive to the location because the roads on the route can be dangerous.

Appalachian Trail

The Appalachian Trail is a 2,190+ mile long public footpath that traverses the scenic, wooded, pastoral, wild, and culturally resonant lands of the Appalachian Mountains. We have multiple entrances to the historic trail within just a few miles of our home. The red line in the map below indicates the Appalachian Trail while the red dot shows the location of your site.

Fahnestock State Park (Clarence Fahnestock)

Fahnestock is located only 5 miles away! This beautiful state park offers gorgeous views, picnic areas, hiking trails, swimming, kayaking, rentable boats, and camping.

This is another great hiking spot within only a few miles of our home. It’s renowned for its firetower that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Hudson Valley as well as its Mountain Biking trails.

Bear Mountain Bridge and State Park

This is a bit further out from us (18 miles – about 30 minutes), but it’s worth the trek because you get a view of the Hudson River from a historic bridge and access to biking trails, the Appalachian Trail, and challenging trails up Bear Mountain. There’s also a restaurant located at the Inn if you make a reservation ahead of time.
